I guess I didn't get the memo that declared this week Golf Course Management Week in the consumer media. Because in addition to the story featuring GCSAA CEO Steve Mona in the Wall Street Journal earlier this week (see the post "Healthy living and a fresh start" from earlier today on the blog), the superintendent is also getting some love in the issue of Sports Illustrated that will hit newsstands and mailboxes across the country later this week.
The story, "Grass ceiling" by SI writer Jeff Silverman, focuses on women working in golf course management with a special focus on Candice Combs, CGCS, the 12-year GCSAA member who heads maintenance at the South Course at Torrey Pines, which will play host to the 2008 U.S. Open. We're told the story will be included in the Golf Plus section of the upcoming issues, which is available to subscribers who request to receive that section with their magazine. If you don't get SI, you can read the story through the link above.
