Just got off the phone with 14-year GCSAA Class A member John Zimmers, superintendent at Oakmont, site of the upcoming U.S. Open.
"What did you guys do to Mickelson?" I asked him.
"Why, what happened?!?" Zimmers replied.
I told him about Lefty pulling out at the Memorial, and that Mickelson mentioned the injury may have been sustained during a warm-up round at Oakmont. ESPN's take is here.
"Gosh, I hope it's not serious -- we really want him out here to play," Zimmers said.
Zimmers says everything is looking good for the Open... it was a hot one there today, topping out at 91 degrees. He said they haven't seen too many pros out there yet. He anticipates the rush will come after the Memorial ends. So far he's seen Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Lee Janzen and Mike Weir.
Expect a lot more from Oakmont and Zimmers soon, as I'll be reporting live from the U.S. Open beginning Monday, June 11.
