Where the green grass grows

A song from my childhood has a line about ¨Where the green grass grows all around, all around.¨ The song must be about Oregon, where I arrived today and where about 450,000 acres of turfgrass blanket the landscape.

Itś been a very long day, but about 30 folks affiliated with the turfgrass seed industry arrived in Corvallis, Ore., to learn about the present state of the seed industry and to visit the Seed Research of Oregon research farm and production facilities. We will also be looking at some growers' operations and a golf course, but tomorrow morning we will have classroom time to get some background before we begin exploring the Willamette Valley.

Also tomorrow, my boss and GCMś editor-in-chief, Ed Hiscock will be making his way to Oregon to  learn about the seed industry from the folks at The Scotts Co. and Pure-Seed Testing. Stay tuned for more news and photos from seed days in Oregon.
