It's approaching running-joke status in the offices of GCM — just about every afternoon over the last two weeks, my colleague Seth Jones has wandered into my office and asked, "Hey, got anything for the blog today?" And just about every afternoon, I've pulled my carcass out from under piles of meeting invitations, bruised and battered conference and show brochures and a handfuls of crumpled calenders to reply, "Yea, I sure do. A lot of things, actually. No time to write 'em up, though." Then Seth would shrug his shoulders, like he already knew the answer, and head back to his office to whip up a post for the day.
It's one of the great paradoxes for our staff at this time of year. With less than 24 hours separating us from our first staff member (that'd be me) hitting the road for points south (that'd be Gulf Shores, Ala., pictured here, for the GCSAA National Championship and Golf Classic), there is more news and information to share with you than we know what to do with. But at the same time, preparations for those travels and the activities that will take place once we get there take up so much dang time that finding a spare 30 minutes to write a blog post in next to impossible.
So, now that I've found that spare 30 minutes, you're getting a little pre-show post with some information that'll be potentially valuable to those heading to New Orleans for GIS as well as information that'll help those stuck at home keep plugged in to all the comings and goings from the Big Easy.
- First, a tip of our tastefully appointed GCM cap to Mr. Jones for keeping things active and at least remotely current during the last week or so. Toast him a few times while you're on Bourbon Street next week, won't you?
- Next, if you're headed to New Orleans for GIS, you're definitely going to want to stop by the GCM booth on the trade show floor, which is 4131. I won't spill all the beans right now — you'll have to wait until 11 a.m. Thursday at booth 4131 to get all of that — but we've got a giveaway on tap, open only to GCSAA working superintendents and those studying to be working superintendents (Class A, A-Retired, SM, C and Student), that you'll want to check out. Again, booth 4131, 11 a.m., Thursday. Yep, booth 4131.
- Did I mention our booth number in NOLA? It's 4131.
- To keep the "tease" motif, you're going to want to watch your in-box, the home page at GCSAA.org, and this blog (among other sources) on Thursday for an announcement that I know all of us at GCSAA are extremely proud of and excited about. It'll be a great addition to the resources that the association has at its disposal to connect with its members. Stay tuned!
- Finally, whether your traveling to New Orleans or sitting this one out, you're going to be able to follow all the action at the Golf Industry Show right here on the GCM blog. Beginning Friday, we'll begin delivering a whole host of content from the heart of the GCSAA tournament and the show floor. We'll have text. We'll have photos. We'll have video (I hope). We'll have audio (I also hope). And if the stuff you find here isn't enough, we encourage you to sign up to follow us on Twitter. What the heck is a Twitter? Hopefully, the last part of this post will say it all. If not, just go here and explore until your heart's content.
- Once again, booth 4131. Sorry.
