You've probably read about this before either here on the blog or in the actual pages of GCM, but just a reminder to all the assistant superintendents out there that the application deadline for this year's Green Start Academy, presented by John Deere Golf and Bayer Environmental Science, is fast approaching. Applications are due Friday, July 31.
Green Start is an educational and networking event that takes place this year Sept. 29-Oct. 2 in Clayton, N.C., at Bayer's Development and Training Center, as well as in nearby Fuquay Varina, N.C., where John Deere has a turf care production facility. Now in its fourth year (I think ... I'm coming up with that completely from memory), the event gives assistants the opportunity to learn best practices, meet industry experts (including some GCSAA staff members) and interact with peers from across the country.
"Throughout this program, assistant superintendents are awarded the opportunity to experience professional development in all areas of golf course management, including equipment, irrigation and chemical management education," Gregg Breningmeyer, the group director of sales and marketing for John Deere Golf, says. "Past participants continue to provide us with positive feedback, so we're looking forward to yet another productive event this year."
Applicants must be nominated by their head superintendent. Once nominated, assistants are eligible to apply by submitting an essay. All told, 50 participants are selected to attend this event. For more information or to apply, head on over to the Green Start Academy Web site.
