Lebanon Turf, a longtime fixture in the golf course management industry and a provider of turf health and input products, has made its second significant acquisition in the last seven months.
The company announced late last week that it had acquired the turf and landscape business from Novozymes, most notably the Roots Turf brand of organic-based granular fertilizers along with several other nutritional components. That move came on the heels of the company's acquisition of the line of foliar and granular fertilizers from Emerald Isle in December of last year.
Kathy Bishop, the CEO and president of Lebanon Turf, called the most-recent move as a step toward solidifying the company's position in the field of biological plant nutrition. "Biology and microbes are fundamentally changing agronomic science and how nutrition is viewed and applied," she said in a news release. "This acquisition puts us on the front edge of that change."
According the Lebanon, the Roots Turf brand offers a nutrient-delivery system that feeds the plant while enhancing the biological life of the soil and plant ecosystem. Roots products are used most notably in golf and sports turf markets, but are also available for lawn care, sod and hydroseeding.
"We now can offer customers access to the broadest and most complete offering of nutrition and physiological fitness products on the market today — from fundamental N-P-K offerings to highly advanced biotechnology based products," said Dave Heegard, the vice president and general manager of Lebanon Turf.
For Novozymes part, the company classified the move as part of a "focused growth strategy for its microorganism business. "We want to ensure the continued growth and profitability of our bio-agriculture business brand based on the development of our core technologies," said Thomas Videbaek, the executive vice president of Novozymes' bio-business division.
