There are hazards on a golf course, and then there are HAZARDS on a golf course.
Anyone who was traversing the links at Rim GC in Payzon, Ariz., last week can tell you that, as they witnessed a group of real-life cowboys roaming the property to round up a herd of elk that had made their way onto the golf course overnight.
Yep, cowboys riding through a golf course. Chasing elk. Happens all the time.
The superintendent at Rim GC, Justin Ruiz, CGCS, posted about the elk's unauthorized break-in on his Twitter account last week. It seems the animals found a broken section of fencing that winds its way through a heavily wooded area along the border of the golf course and made themselves at home, enjoying the wide open spaces on the course. Ruiz and his maintenance team, however, weren't enjoying the damage that was being left behind by the elk and contacted the cowboys to help with escorting the animals back to where they came from. The process took a couple of hours, and that section of fencing has now been repaired.
My thanks to Ruiz for sending along these photos. And if you're a Twitter user, you can search out and follow him at @JustinRuizCGCS. Heck, while you're at it, you can follow us too. We're @GCM_Magazine.
