Just had a reminder pop up on my calendar: "Bug the heck out of readers of the blog to follow us on Twitter." OK, not really, but I'm still going to bug the heck out of you about following us on Twitter.
GCM has been utilizing Twitter on a regular basis since August 2008 when we began to post updates from our live, behind-the-scenes coverage of golf course maintenance activities at the Ryder Cup competitions at Valhalla GC in Louisville, Ky. Since then, we've built our presence by pushing breaking industry news, updates about new blog posts and information about upcoming stories in the magazine. Right now, our account boasts 294 very engaged, very intelligent, industry savvy and ruggedly handsome (what? too much?) followers.
There are two ways to keep up on what we're doing on Twitter. If you're really not a joiner and would prefer to lurk and observe from afar, that's cool. All you need to do is point yourself to http://twitter.com/GCM_Magazine whenever you want to check out what we've been posting. If and when you decide you're ready to make a commitment and officially "follow" GCM, you can sign up for your own Twitter account on the site (it's free), click the "Follow" button on our page and you're set. Whenever you visit the Twitter Web site or utilize any of the various Twitter clients available for most mobile devices, you'll find our most recent posts along with others from folks you've decided to follow. It's that easy.
So what have you missed recently on Twitter? I don't want to exaggerate, but you've missed a ton. For example:
- Did you know the Bethpage Black superintendent Craig Currier is reportedly leaving for a new post at a private club on Long Isalnd? Our Twitter followers did. The rest of you can check out a little of what Newsday is reporting about this right here — sorry, Newsday is now subscriber-based, so the tease is all you get.
- Did you know that Stephen Bernhard, the founder and managing director of grinder and sharpener manufacturer Bernhard and Co., is taking his first steps toward retirement? Our Twitter followers did.
- Did you know that Club Car is hiking its prices by 2.5 percent for 2010 because of rising worldwide commodity prices? Our Twitter followers did.
- Did you know that the LPGA released its 2010 schedule, and it features 23 events (just 12 in the continental U.S.), down from 27 last year and 34 as recently as two years ago? Our Twitter followers did.
Thanks for keeping th content flowing!
