So, what are your thought on Lorena Ochoa retiring from golf?
As you know, Lorena was quite popular with our members. She really showed a lot of appreciation towards the crews. Heck, she even made it a tradition to have breakfast with the crew at the Kraft Nabisco.
She's worked with GCSAA on numerous occasions. I think back to all the time she gave me and John Miller, CGCS. That resulted in a cover story and a cover photo.
She went out of her way to accommodate us for the spot we did with her for The Golf Channel. On that shoot, she graciously gave her time without compensation to shoot the spot during a practice round the day before the tournament was to begin. While her staff asked us to limit the shoot to 15 minutes, Ochoa told us not to worry and to take as long as we needed.
After about 40 minutes, the shoot was wrapped. But Ochoa didn't quickly take off... she made sure we were happy and didn't want to do one more shoot! It's easy to see why such a class act is so revered in the golf world.
So, she had her press conference today. She looks happy. We'll certainly miss her on the golf course, and let's be honest, GCSAA is losing a high profile connection in the game of golf... but we certainly won't lose the friendship.
Thanks, Lorena. Here at GCSAA, we wish you nothing but happiness.
