More fun with photos from Day Two of Jacobsen's Future Turf Managers gathering in Charlotte, N.C.:
Yep, that's GCSAA's own Brian Wingerd, who kicked off Day Two with a presentation on the benefits of membership in GCSAA. An immediate benefit for Future Turf Managers participants, thanks to the generosity of their hosts from Jacobsen, was a free year of GCSAA membership, which for most meant an extension of their current student memberships in the organization.
Next up was Charles Peacock, Ph.D., a turfgrass professor at North Carolina State University and a 1979 graduate of the Future Turf Managers program when it was held in Racine, Wis. Peacock walked participants through his career in turf and laid out a road map for what he believe lies ahead for the industry.
The morning's final classroom presentation came from Chad Price, the president of Carolina Green Corp., a sports field construction firm, and an officer with the Sports Turf Managers Association, who spoke about the benefits of membership in that organization.
After the presentations, it was on to a bus and off to Columbia, S.C., where participants got a chance to tour two sports facilities at the University of South Carolina. The first stop was Carolina Stadium, the year-old home of the South Carolina baseball team that seats more than 8,000.
Clark Cox, the field manager at USC who oversees maintenance on all of the university's sports fields, led the afternoon tours.
Group picture time at Carolina Stadium!
The day's final official stop was the home of South Carolina football, Williams-Brice Stadium.
Jacobsen's Sharon DeWolfe, right, introduced the group to a special guest ... Vollie Carr, the company's longtime product and tournament support manager who had been a fixture around golf course maintenance at professional tournaments — including working more than 30 Masters — before retiring last year.
