We've all got prima donnas we know. David Bermudez, superintendent at Del Rio G&CC in Modesto, Calif., didn't expect his dog to become one.
Ahh, the price of fame.
Bermudez (what a great name for a superintendent at a course with hybrid bermuda fairways!) was asked by the general manager of his club to provide the course monthly magazine, "The Bogey," with an article about the course bird dog, Lance, a 3-year-old border collie.
So Bermudez got a little creative, and rather than just writing about his dog, he wrote the story from the dog's point of view.
"Working for golf course maintenance my day starts at 4 a.m. We're normally at work around 5, and the crew begins their shift at 5:30," states the article. "I spend my day driving or running around with David looking for water fowl, squirrels, skunks, coyotes and other assorted critters. When I see geese or ducks I run after them and chase them away."
If it were just a story, that'd be one thing. But Lance scored the front cover of the magazine — a full-color close-up that'd make Lindsey Lohan blush.
Now, Lance is a celebrity at Del Rio. Bermudez is hearing about the story everyday, and members are stopping to pet Lance every time they see him. Bermudez believes he's created a monster.
"Since the magazine came out, Lance is so popular, he's difficult to work with," Bermudez jokes.
Careful Lance, don't let the fame get to your head.
Remember, every dog has his day.
