I have the results in for the GCM pick 'em contest, and I'm afraid we have a rules controversy.
See, one of our pickers grounded his club in a bunker, thus adding two strokes to his overall score...
Wait, wrong controversy.
OK, the pick 'em controversy -- we have two squads tied after the tie-breaker! Ugh!
Here's how it looks: three teams tied for first place with their picks (Patrick Reinhardt, Sean Hoolehan and Scott Hollister). So we go to the tiebreaker, thus eliminating Hollister (who chose 281 as the final score). The other two contestants both guessed 278 as the final score -- Martin Kaymer shot 277.
So now we have two players in a playoff... what do we do now?
I met with the executive rules committee in the scoring tent and we decided the second tie-breaker would be each contestant's fourth golfer.
For Reinhardt, that golfer would be Ernie Els, who finished in 18th place. For Hoolehan, that golfer would be Padraig Harrington, who didn't make the cut.
...so, we're declaring Patrick Reinhardt, assistant superintendent at the Standard Club in Duluth, Ga.,and his foursome of Rory McIlroy, Phil Mickelson, Steve Stricker and Ernie Els as the winner of our 2010 PGA Championship Pick 'Em contest! Congrats Patrick!
For his winning picks, Patrick wins a 2010 PGA Championship Whistling Straits golf shirt, a 2010 PGA Championship official souvenir program, and the secret recipe to Mrs. Zugel's white bean chicken chili!
Thanks to everyone who played. We'll try to figure out ways to make the pick 'em more exciting and reader-friendly next year... feel free to email us your suggestions.
No Controversy Here, Good for Patrick!!!
Thanks for putting on the contest.
