If you're on the lookout for a new job in golf, then today is your lucky day. The USGA is hiring ... if, of course, you're looking to take on the job of executive director for golf's governing body.
The quest to replace longtime executive director David Fay, who announced his retirement on Christmas Eve, officially bean today with this formal job posting on the USGA's website and the formation of a committee that will conduct the search. That committee is being chaired by USGA president Jim Hyler and includes incoming vice presidents Glen D. Nager and Thomas J. O'Toole, Jr., incoming USGA Women's Committee chairman Martha Lang and James F. Vernon, immediate past president of the USGA.
The USGA also announced it will not use an outside firm to conduct the search to replace Fay, who had served as executive director for the past 21 years.
"The USGA realizes that replacing David will be a difficult task and we are dedicated to finding the right candidate to lead the Association,” Hyler said in a news release. “We plan to conduct a thorough search that includes both internal and external candidates, and hope to have a new executive director in place within the next three to four months.”
