It has been WAAAAYYYY too long since we've updated the growing list of superintendents who have taken the plunge into the world of blogging and social media. Admittedly, it's a tough group to keep tabs on — so many golf course management industry professionals dive into the pool each week that staying up to date on the additions can become a full-time job.
Still, we've made it a mission to keep our readers plugged in to this group, to shine a bit of the spotlight on superintendents who have taken to the Internet and to give others who are considering trying their hand at blogging a little encouragement that if these guys could do it, they could do it too. And we've failed in that mission as of late.
But no more. Over the course of the next several weeks, we'll begin to make up ground in this department. We'll feature a handful of blogs in each post, and then add them to the permanent list that we maintain on the right side of the blog. So let's get started.
First up is the team from Jimmie Austin Golf Club at the University of Oklahoma in Norman. Assistant superintendent Eddie Roach Jr., a six-year member of GCSAA, maintains this blog which most recently has focused on the crew's spring aerification work on the course as well as a recent story from the USGA Green Section about cutting heights and how to determine the correct heights for your golf course.
Also joining our Super Blogger crew is Ken Williams, CGCS from another university layout, Stanford University Golf Course in California. The 26-year GCSAA member's blog bills itself as a source for "course conditions, wildlife updates and projects" and recently has featured posts on a golf car path replacement project, the expansion of naturalized areas on the golf course and the addition of new benches on some holes.
Finally today, let's tip our cap to GCSAA Class A superintendent Ryan Cummings and the blog he started to detail maintenance efforts at Plymouth (Ind.) Country Club. The seven-year GCSAA member gives his readers an in-depth look at aerification work they recently completed and the how and why behind the reel grinding process, among other things.
Stay tuned for more updates to our Super Blogger list.
