Former Golf Course Superintendents Association of America employee Charles M. "Chuck" Borman, CAE, will receive the Distinguished Service Award from the Carolinas Golf Course Superintendents Association.
Borman worked on two different occasions at GCSAA, first as membership services director. He returned in 2001 as chief operating officer before going to Carolinas GCSA, where he served as executive director until his retirement in 2009.
Borman will be honored Nov. 14-16 during the association's annual conference and trade show in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
According to Carolinas GCSA, membership grew from 1,200 members to 1,800 members on Borman's watch. Also, the annual operating budget increased from $400,000 to $1.1 million, and conference and show gross revenue grew from $230,000 to about $600,000. Carolinas GCSA also became the first regional superintendents association in the country to own its own headquarters.
Also under Borman's guidance, Carolinas GCSA employed its first professional government relations expert, led the campaign to have North Carolina Golf Day proclaimed by the governor, and steered the first North Carolina Golf Economic Impact Study.
