John Deere Golf's foray into the irrigation business has come to an end.
After making a big splash at the 2006 Golf Industry Show in Atlanta with its move into irrigation through a partnership with Signature Control Systems, the company announced today that it was putting an end to that part of its business. The company will continue to support current customers, but Signature will now begin selling golf irrigation products through its own distribution network (which does include select John Deere golf distributors) and under its own brand name. As a part of this agreement, irrigation sales will no longer be part of John Deere Golf's portfolio.
"Both John Deere Golf and Signature Control Systems remain committed to our relationship and committed to the industry," said Gregg Breningmeyer, the global golf segment manager for John Deere. "Through our core competencies, both companies will help superintendents create the best possible playing surfaces at their courses."
"Since our proud relationship with John Deere started in 2006, we see this announcement further expanding our collective efforts of the past few years, despite the impact of the worldwide economy." said Brian J. Smith, Signature's CEO. "We remain committed to our relationship with John Deere Golf and the golf industry and see this new chapter in our strategic growth as a significant and positive step in working with existing and new users in seeking new ways to improve golf course maintenance practices."
