A pair of Illinois superintendents took home the title in the top division of today's Four-Ball Competition at the 2012 GCSAA National Championship and Golf Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.
Playing the Mountain Course at La Quinta Resort and Club, the team of David Kohley from Silver Lake CC in Orland Park and Tim Scott, CGCS from Stony Creek GC in Oak Lawn won the top prize in that division with a combined team score of 4-under-par. In the Four-Ball I net division, a pair of Rafaels came home in first place — Rafael Barajas, CGCS at Hacienda GC in La Habra Heights, Calif., and Rafael Martinez from South Hills CC in West Covina, Calif. — with a team score of 8-under-par.
The Four-Ball II Gross prize went to the team of Matt Hughes from Fallen Oaks GC in Saucier, Miss., and Toby Kiggins from Green Oaks CC in Verona, Pa., with their combined score of 2-over-par. In the net divsion, David Hare from Sanctuary in Sedalia, Colo., and Darren Redetzke with The Toro Co. were the top finishers, coming in at 8-under-par. Four-Ball II competitors played the Nicklaus Tournament Course at PGA West.
Finally, in the Four-Ball III division played on La Quinta's Dunes Course, the gross title was won by Alan Fierst from The Oak Park CC in River Grove, Ill., and Tommy Witt, CGCS from Northmoor CC in Highland Park, Ill., with a score of plus-4, while the net championship went to John Burke from Westfields GC in Clifton, Va., and Corey Haney from Washington G&CC in Arlington, Va., with a score of minus-11.
