Darin Bevard, a veteran USGA Green Section Agronomist, has been selected as the new director of the Mid-Atlantic region. He replaces the late Stan Zontek, the USGA's longest tenured employee at the time of his death in late August.
Bevard joined the Green Section in 1996 as an agronomist in the Mid-Atlantic region, and was promoted to the role of senior agronomist in 2006. Prior to joining the Green Section, Bevard worked at several golf courses in Maryland, including Talbot CC in Easton, Old South CC in Lothian and Harbourtwone CC in St. Michaels. A Penn State graduate, he wrote his master's thesis on weed control in newly established turfgrass, and won the Pennsylvania Turfgrass Council Scholarship for his outstanding graduate-level work.
Bevard will team with senior agronomist Keith Happ to service the Mid-Atlantic region, which is made up of golf courses in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
I never knew Mr. Bevard graduated from Penn State. I am currently getting my Masters at Alvernia and my professor brought out his thesis in one of my classes. It is always interesting hearing about other peoples work especially Darin Bevards for that matter. It is a very small world we live in, thank you for sharing.
