The U.S. Open isn't all that has come and gone at Merion Golf Club.
Superintendent Arron McCurdy has moved on. Now he is the superintendent at Metedeconk National Golf Club, a 27-hole private club in Jackson, N.J. He was replaced by assistant Matt Stoy.
Matt Shaffer, Merion's director of golf course operations, tells GCM that his staff has worked tirelessly recovering from the major championship in June that was captured by Justin Rose, and their work continues. Renovations included the driving range (pictured).
"We are almost fully recovered," Shaffer, 33-year member of GCSAA, says. "We seeded our rough versus sodding. The sod was too perfect for my liking. You know me ... it has to be edgy or it feels artificial."
As for his crew, well, Shaffer says there is nothing fake about their performance.
"The guys are still working hard, but they are horses and more importantly young," he says.
