Keith Happ, a former golf course superintendent and longtime agronomist with the USGA Green Section, died earlier this week. He was 58.
Happ began his career in golf as superintendent at Legend Lake Golf Club in Chadron, Ohio. During his eight years there, he achieved GCSAA certification. He later completed formal turfgrass education at Ohio State before joining the USGA Green Section as an agronomist in the Mid-Atlantic region in 1993.
He opened a sub-regional USGA Green Section Turf Advisory office in Pittsburgh, Pa., in 2000, providing on-site consultation and outreach to superintendents throughout that area. He was appointed as the director of the North Central Region in 2013, a post he held until earlier this year.
Happ is survived by his wife Mary Beth, two sons, two bothers and a sister.
