In a 24-hour period, Chris Tritabaugh has become even more popular.
Based on his twitter handle, @ct_turf, the Hazeltine National superintendent added 135 followers, raising his total to 7,842 followers as of mid-afternoon Friday. Some of it may have to do with the fact he oversees a facility that is hosting the 41st Ryder Cup. Still, Tritabaugh enjoys in engaging in the social media world, even though at first he wasn't eager to do it at all. In fact, it was his sister, Emily, who suggested that it might be a benefit in his job.
"I wasn't against it, but I didn't know what I was going to do with it," says Tritabaugh, adding "she said I could take pictures, let people know what we were doing on a particular project, things like that. I wasn't the first superintendent to use it, but I think this is something that has changed our industry."
As of Friday, Tritabaugh had delivered 23,200 tweets, including about 100 in a day this week.
Tritabaugh hasn't met all of his followers, or those he is following, but sometimes they eventually meet in person. He mentioned the Golf Industry Show as one of those places. "I like sharing info with people. I'm not giving away anything I shouldn't, but I like to give access when I can," he says. "I think sharing some things can help all of us in our work."
Since he arrived at Hazeltine in 2013, Tritabaugh's followers total has increased by 6,642.
