Shaquille O'Neal can be pretty loquacious. If you follow his twitter page you're familiar with his sometimes-obnoxious tweets to his fanbase, and if you're familiar with YouTube pop culture you might remember his terrible attempt at a rap assault on Kobe Bryant.
But there are also some great stories about Shaq going out of his way to do something nice for a fan, or a friend or someone in need. And it's that better side of the newly-branded Cavalier that's lending his name (and his mama, Lucille's) to a charity golf event in Orlando to help fund cancer research and scholarships for students in nursing. The "Shaq's Mama Said Knock You Out" golf tournament -- set to occur at Orlando's Shingle Creek Golf Club on Sept. 18, carries a ticket price of $150 a person and sponsorship opportunities starting at $3K. Many NBA greats and other sports luminaries are said to be on-site for the festivities, which include golf, food, music, poker and more.
The fundraiser benefits the Odessa Chambliss Quality of Life Fund, which was established to honor Shaq's grandmother, who worked for more than 16 years as a nurse and passed away in 1996. It funds nursing and educational scholarships at a number of colleges in Florida, and donations will also fund cancer research.
