John Deere Golf and Environmental Science, a business unit of the Crop Science division of Bayer, today announced the application process for the 12th Annual Green Start Academy (GSA) will open on May 22, 2017. Fifty assistant superintendents, from the U.S. and Canada, will be selected from the applicant pool and will receive an all-expense paid trip to attend the event. Eligible assistant superintendents looking to advance their careers, hone their business skills in critical areas, and network with prominent professionals in the field are encouraged to apply.
“Since 2005, Green Start Academy has been renowned for helping assistant superintendents build a strong foundation for their careers,” said Ren Wilkes, marketing manager for John Deere Golf. “For the industry to be successful, we need to cultivate the leaders of tomorrow, and John Deere is proud to support this leadership and development program – helping assistant superintendents build a strong foundation for their careers.”
As in years past, Green Start Academy will take place at the Bayer Development and Training Center in Clayton, N.C., the John Deere Turf Care factory in nearby Fuquay-Varina and John Deere headquarters in Cary, N.C., from Oct. 25-27.
Fifty assistant superintendents will be selected from the applicant pool to participate and will receive an all-expense-paid trip to attend the event. Those in attendance will meet with peers and gain valuable insights from top industry leaders.
“Over the years, Green Start Academy has demonstrated the inherent value of cultivating leaders for the next generation of golf course superintendents,” said David Wells, golf business manager for the Bayer Turf & Ornamentals business. “We couldn’t be more thrilled to welcome another elite class of assistants as part of our ongoing dedication to strengthening careers and, in turn, the industry as a whole.”
